Building Works Update July 2010

The Laycock Rebuilding & Refurbishment Programme

After three years of building works we are now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We have gained a beautiful space in the new hall and the foyer.  The computer room is being really well used and enjoyed by the children.

The lift is almost complete.  The new Nursery and the Playcentre will be ready for September.

We can’t wait for the opening of the front of the school which will give us a safe and welcoming entrance with the office down stairs.

Many classrooms have been refurbished with acoustic panels all over the corridors and new room.  The improvement to the learning environment is enormous and children, staff and parents all approve!

The new boilers, the roof works, drinking fountains in all classrooms all help us to be proud of our 21st century school.

We are looking forward particularly to having raised beds/allotment space – the children already love growing flowers and vegetables and to extend this to proper planting will be beneficial all round.

We have had an amazing experience working with Mary Plowman as the Architect.  She has really listened to all we have said, following consultations with parents, staff, governors and children.  This information is reflected throughout the building worKs.  Balfour Beatty have been extremely helpful and so have the Planning and Development Team.

It is a major exercise for a school to go on operating amidst all the building works and I have to thank especially the children and the staff who have experienced every minute of it!

We had hoped that all the building works would be completed for September.  Unfortunately, the substation can not be moved until next term but all the internal works will be completed.  Until then we will continue to use the side entrance.

We will update you in the early autumn.
